RE: Chiso Preniv Security

Post by Traveler263 »

At the Town Hall, I mentioned that Kelsei found an artifact that had fallen from the rooftop through the hole in the ceiling. I don't believe that it's necessarily a security risk, or a threat from the locals. I believe it likely was still up there from the last time the Locals chased the D'ni out. However, to that end, I *AM* engaging in an effort on the side to look for potential other locations that we could move our Age hosting Library to in the event that the locals *are* raising a stink about us occupying Chiso Preniv.

Kelsei? If you want to chime in...

The artifact in question appears to be made of the same Nara-like substance that the locals used when chasing off the D'ni in the first place. I'd hesitate to call it a weapon, but it's definitely not a friendly greeting either.

It, uh.

It looks like anatomically correct severed eyeball, having been yanked out of the skull.

If Calum's right and it just *rolled* off of the roof? It was absolutely meant as a warning for anyone who ventured up onto the roof to warn them not to go beyond its premises, but, if I'm right and they sent down into the library deliberately to warn us we're being observed?

Message received, I say.

Would we prefer a location in the city away from the hustle and bustle? Or are we talking about another "off-site" location in case all hell breaks loose in the cavern? I can certainly do some scouting on my bike in the Belari district (now that I replaced my tires...). The whole area wasn't in the best shape before the Fall, but there are plenty of structures still standing. I've seen the concert hall there from the outside, but haven't dared to peak in yet.

I have a few Cavern Locations in mind- away from the more heavily populated areas, but I also wouldn't be opposed to an "Off-Site" location either. It would make the most sense when we have to link to Cavern Locations, for example.

Unfortunately have had a lot on my plate the last few days. Haven't had time to work on that side of things.

I hesitate to say it, but an off-site backup location also gives us extra security in case something catastrophic happens in the Cavern or individuals with less-than-honorable intentions look to cause trouble with a D'ni location. It doesn't have to be very big or ostentatious, just enough to hold the books we want to secure.

Given recent history the last few years, Ken raises a valid point, Calum.

Mmmrh. Don't remind me.

I've got enough on my plate backing up the forums right now in case of worst case scenarios, never mind backing up Chiso's location, heh.

Bare minimum, I think I'll be keeping a copy of every age book in my office, just in-case. I'll have to see if I can get approval to host copies in the Rei'schu apartment as well. The more backup sites the better.

Backing up the forums?

...Well, given the crash earlier this year, I can see why you'd be paranoid about that. What are you thinking of doing?

Just printing out copies of forum posts and chatlog transcripts for hosting in Chiso Preniv, or some other location. My main concern are the chatlogs, there's a lot more of that than our other activities here. I've gotten almost all of it backed up now.

Hopefully it's all just cautious paranoia and it doesn't require doing, but just incase... I'd rather get it done in a way I know remains accessible in the years to come.

Well first there's cautious optimism, now cautious paranoia. Hrm. Well, I won't stop you on it. Just don't burn yourself out over it.
