Arrivals

It seems our “friend” on the surface has stepped up his plans a few notches. His Uru explorers are arriving in the cavern at an increasingly accelerating rate.

I know we aren’t ready yet, but it’s obvious that we can’t stop them. So what do we do now that they’re here? Any idea how many are here so far?

It’s hard to tell for certain Marie – for me that’s one of the most frustrating things about losing control of the emigration. But the last time I ran a system query I logged some 1500 registered KI’s. I suspect there’s another 500 or so explorers about who haven’t registered for whatever reason and who knows how many are sniffing about on the surface.

I agree it’s time for us to put away our chagrin and put the best face on this that we can – we have a responsibility and it’s not their fault they’re here early.

I’ve been waiting to unveil this properly (but isn’t that how we’ve gotten in this mess in the first place?)…

I’ve managed to wire one of the neighborhood imagers into the KI lattice to display neighborhood information. They’re currently displaying a latest visitor list but there’s potential for more. I’m currently working on hooking in the ahyoheek (sp?) table to display high scores – that may be online early next week. I know these things aren’t much – but they’re an enjoyable break for me from The Project and I think folks will enjoy them.

We don’t throw away our schedules, just so we can make a few visitors happy.

Don’t worry, Kodama. I don’t think anyone’s suggesting that we delay the restoration. We’ve just got a lot of people down here, and more coming every day. Seems like we should be a bit more accommodating.

Speaking of which, there are two D’ni dates of interest in the next week or so. Maybe we could arrange something special for those days.

Good. I was starting to picture contests and bad prizes.

Funny you should say that. I did have a couple of contests in mind.

This may be madness…but we do have those small extruders my team’s been tinkering with. Michael what do you think about a design contest? Think you could actually make something to spec with those contraptions? It’d be a fun experiment at the least.

What kind of competition did you have in mind Marie?

Well, given the anniversary of the Writer’s Guild it seems appropriate to have a writing (little “w”) contest. Let’s get together and work out the details, then I can post what we decide in the next couple of days.

My apologies for not replying sooner, as you know I have been busy. Let’s set up a time for experiments with the extruders and see what we can do.

Kodama, your concerns are not falling on deaf ears. However, we cannot just sit by without celebrating the D’ni Holidays this week; it’s D’ni tradition to remember events from the past. With so many explorers in the cavern these days, it would only be right to celebrate these events with them.

Sounds good, Marie. I’ll have to leave the details up to the rest of you, though. I need to take a quick trip to the surface to meet with Bryan.

My concerns are more related to contests and extruders then reasonable celebrations of holidays.

The experiments went very well don’t you agree Vic? I think we can proceed as we discussed. I’m sending along a list of specs for people to follow if they want to try to design something.

I concur. Let’s do it – Marie I think we should do your writing contest as well so that more people can participate. Looking at Engberg’s specs, the design contests might be too intimidating for your average explorer. Maybe split the contests up over the two holidays?

Dr. Watson gave me some info about the Great King before he left. I’m putting together a brief for the site. I think the writing contest would be best suited to go along with that update. Perhaps a poem or a parable based on the info that we post this weekend.

It’s working…now I can see if my theory about this game is true. ;-)

Oh and I see the first contests are online – looks good Marie.

Ok, everything is up for the writing contest.

Hope you’re able to enjoy the First Arrival of the Great King holiday tommorow.
