The Guild of Maintainers were one of the more well known Guilds and one of the most popular and like other Guilds what went on within the Guild of Maintainers was carried out in secrecy. Around 8500 DE the Guild of Maintainers started a highly trained group responsible for advancements in Maintainer technology. This "special force" was housed upon Gahreesen, Guildsmen who were highly trained both physically and mentally, the elite within an already well trained Guilding. It was from Gahreesen that many of the technological advances took place, with advancements in KI technology as well as Maintainer suit technology. Many of these advances were only available for the "special forces" some of these technologies made their way to the rest of the Guild and some to the general public itself. The KI is a prime example of this. Whilst the KI had been used by the Guild for a long time the device had started to be rolled out to the D'ni population with some of the D'ni elite obtaining a KI just prior to The Fall.

The Age of Gahreesen is designed to be difficult, the buildings within the Age constantly rotate making Linking in impossible save for a small handful of locations such as the Well. Any visitor that arrived automatically had any Books upon them removed until departure but even then visitors to the Age were extremely rare. The Guild of Maintainers were in the process of opening up the initial section of Gahreesen up to the public so that they could obtain their KI devices, however the fall of D'ni put an end to such plans.

Appearance

Gahreesen is a vast forested Age with the main structures of the Age situated in a valley with a large lake fed by waterfalls and a river.

The Creatures are dangerous animals that roam the lands outside the safety of the Gahreesen structures.

"The creatures. These things are something out of a horror movie. I've been up here a little while and I don't see them often but when I do they are scaring me to death. I'm beginning to understand the fences and structures a little better. Perhaps some of them were designed to keep creatures out more than keep visitors in." - Michael Simpson

Sightings of the creatures are extremely rare, so far it is believed that members of the DRC are the only ones who have seen the animals.

TallBoys are tall trees that populate the outer areas of Gahreesen. They are long pillar like trees with small foliage at their crowns. The trees are hardy showing to be able to grow even on rocky surfaces.
