Meeting

Posted By: Michael Engberg

I had a conversation with an explorer named Knottyboy today, I mentioned before that we need to have a meeting about Douglas. After today’s discussion I still believe we need to have this meeting.

I’m tired of these fools and their negative comments about our own organization written on forums WE allow them to use. This is unacceptable and ridiculous behavior.

Who is in charge here, us or them?

What are you suggesting Ikuro? Shall we start deleting threads and posts?

Michael

By all means.

Such comments deserve no place here.

Calm down, Ikuro.

Deleting offensive, inappropriate threads is fine (and should be expected), but deleting threads that we simply don’t agree with will be counter-productive.

I agree it would be nice if certain posters would be a bit more appreciative, not only of the work we have done in the past, but what we are currently doing and will do in the future.
But if they think they don’t need us, what harm is that to us, really? They’re simply wrong, and they’ll find out just how wrong they are about that soon enough.

Nexus City Links Restored

I was able to reenable these today after some quick optimizations to the Nexus core.

Apologies for the downtime. I understand it was particularly troublesome for our international explorers.

Update on Phil

Posted By: Dr. Watson
On: December 18, 2003

Rand Miller contacted me via KI this morning, asking me to come to one of the ‘hoods. There was a group of people gathered there asking about Phil Henderson. I told him that I could spare a few moments and did so.

They asked where Phil was. I told them that we obviously were not going to reveal his location at this time. I assured them that Phil has not been harmed in any way, and explained that we’ve known Phil personally a lot longer than any of them have, and just want to be sure that Phil is OK, as well as to hear his accounts of the past year.

They were upset about our taking Phil by force, and I tried to explain the situation – that we’d done our best to get Phil alone to talk with him over the past weeks and had been unable to talk with him without Douglas’ interference.

They wanted assurance that Phil was unharmed, and agreed that Rand could serve as a witness. At our earliest opportunity following that meeting, I took Rand to Phil, so he can verify that Phil is being well looked after.

As for certain recent outbursts in Ae’gura – the blatant disregard for the DRCs construction barriers halfway up the Great Stair – that won’t help new areas be approved any faster, in fact, just the opposite.

And finally, to those who are complaining about the DRC and our methods – that we’re too slow and have done too little to help the recent arrivals: if you’re serious in your complaints, feel free to not use any of the Books with DRC stamps on them. Maybe you’ll get a better idea of how much we have provided for you.

Here we go again…allowing the worst of behavior to go unpunished. Who is in charge here?

Right now, not us.

I agree that something needs to be done. What do you suggest Kodama?

Michael

Who is in charge? Why is he allowed to still do work for us?

While I understand your frustration Dr. Kodama, what exactly are you suggesting? You know we can’t take Teledahn back.

I’m aware of that Marie.

There are numerous other areas that we still provide access to. Numerous.

I think I agree with you Kodama. We can’t just sit around and let him do whatever he wants.

What should we take?

On: December 22, 2003

Before I get to the meat of this announcement, I want to applaud the well-spoken thoughts of explorers like Zardoz and others who have been voicing concerns over recent developments in the cavern. Actions of rogue elements of the DRC supported by common thugs will not go without consequence. Perhaps now everyone can see what will happen to the resotoration project if things are not well-governed. Where we may have appeared heavy-handed in the past, perhaps now you can see that we have the explorers’ best interests in mind. Perhaps you can see that rebuilding a civilization is no small task to be managed by hobbyists and deluded cowboys.

Now to practicle matters.

The Great Tree Pub, formerly assigned to Douglas Sharper, will be reassigned to an as yet undecided project lead. Sharper has his pub in the city for now. I hope it’s all that he imagined.

The neighborhood that was serving as a meeting place and unregulated playground for Sharper and his favorites is hereby closed.

Many thanks to all of our supporters for reliable and timely information, not to mention the ongoing encouragement of the voice of reason in these trying times.

Yesterday’s Tragic Event

Posted By: Victor Laxman
On: December 27, 2003

A former DRC associate, Phil Henderson, was involved today in a tragic event in Ae’gura. He was exploring an unopened area of the D’ni Guild Hall when a wall structure surrounding the Guild Hall courtyard collapsed. An initial team of rescuers has reported that the accident site is very unstable. Because of this, rescue efforts are moving very slowly. We’ve moved all of our resources to the rescue effort, but with the amount of rubble, it could take months to clear. Until we find evidence to the contrary, we hold out hope that Phil is alive.

In a convening of the Council shortly after the catastrophe, Dr. Watson ordered the immediate shut down of the Nexus city links and Ae’gura to ensure the safety of the site.

Present Affairs

I do not like this. I hate to repeat myself, but there it is. Did Watson speak to anyone before he left? I understand his reaction, but…

I’ve caught several up there without the proper gear. Please remind those you see to at least wear the hard hats. We need to tighten up this ship.

Posted By: Victor Laxman
On: December 28, 2003

It’s not like him. If we don’t hear from him soon I’m going to turn the Nexus city links back on. I don’t know whether to be angry or concerned over his departure. I do feel we have the legal right to proceed as though he’s abandoned his post.

The Last Few Days and the Future

Posted By: Dr. Kodama
On: December 29, 2003

It has been far too long since we at the DRC have taken the time to inform our visitors of restoration progress, both past, present, and future. After lengthy meetings between Victor Laxman and Dr. Kodama we will attempt to do that.

1. First and foremost, is the status of Phil Henderson. While every attempt is being made to remove debris from the area where Phil was last seen, the task is proving more difficult than first suspected. Much work has been accomplished but much remains. We have found no sign of Phil and though the evidence may suggest otherwise, we will continue to retain hope that he is alive. Our teams are working extremely hard on this effort and we will continue to bring you updates.

2. Dr. Watson has returned to the surface for an undetermined amount of time. While he is gone, Victor Laxman and Dr. Kodama will take over daily operations of the Council. As a result, cavern access will be opened to the pre-accident level as quickly as possible. Both Laxman and Kodama are adamant about providing access to more areas of the city and fully plan on a much quicker implementation of cavern openings. We understand your frustrations.

3. While it will be nice to return to pre-accident levels, we also understand that new areas are needed. As a result, we are planning on opening the Great Zero ahead of schedule, though not completely finished. Barring mishap, the area will be opened next week. At the same time higher priority will be assigned to multiple other new cavern areas. We will also be posting Age and City status of ALL areas that have been or are currently undergoing DRC restoration. Though this “list” will be rather raw at first, we will be adding content to it on a daily basis. Dr. Kodama has long pushed for this information to be released and we see no better time than now to do so.

4. In an effort to better provide information regarding the restoration effort, the DRC will be starting a bi-weekly newsletter in the coming weeks. Sign-ups will be available on the DRC Site. Though it will become increasingly difficult for us to communicate with all visitors personally, we hope these newsletters will prove sufficient for understanding what the DRC is doing and where future openings are occurring.

5. Though very early, Kodama and Laxman have discussed DRC certification for neighborhoods. The number of neighborhoods has grown immensely and in an effort to better use the alloted space and encourage tighter communities, we will be releasing a number of guidelines that will be required for DRC Certification. In the future such certification will provide voting benefits, plaques, etc… early certified neighborhoods will receive private rooms, forum space, etc… Look for more information in the coming weeks.

6. Douglas Sharper: The Explorer’s Pub has been taken from Douglas Sharper for recent activities that were not deemed beneficial to the restoration effort, While Sharper is still considered a valuable individual to this community, we will not tolerate such behavior in any manner now, or in the future.

In conclusion, we thank you for the time and patience you have shown. We understand that the last couple of weeks have been confusing and frustrating in many ways. We hope you bear with us as we try to build a better organization, a better communication channel between you and us, and a brighter hope for the future of D’ni. It is a bright future and one we hope you will be able to see very soon.

Sincerely,

The DRC

Age Listing

Posted By: Dr. Kodama
On: December 30, 2003

The DRC’s current restoration priority list has been posted under “Ages” on our main page. Hopefully you will find the information of benefit. We realize it is sparse and, in some cases, raises more questions then answers, but it is a start. We hope to be adding information to it on an almost daily basis.

Personally, I will say this. I have wanted to release this information for some time. However, fellow council members have feared the release of such information, especially dates, for fear of the trouble that would ensue in the case of a miscalculation. Prove me, and those who have argued otherwise, correct. Our dates are estimates. Do not base your future, or future decisions, on them. We will miss some of the dates listed and when we do, please spare us from your complaints. We are trying to be helpful and informative by releasing more than we need to. If such efforts only provide fodder for derogatory messages, we will discontinue them.

Neighborhood Clocks

Posted By: Victor Laxman
On: December 31, 2003

At the end of the old and beginning of the new year, it seems an apporpriate time to announce the completed restoration of the neighborhood clocks (those that have them). See the front page of this site for a link to an explanation of D’ni timekeeping. Conversion to surface time is fairly complicated. If volunteers with the wherewithal to verify their accuracy notice anything off about the clocks, please let us know.
