The "Bahro" are a race of people found within various Ages and areas of D'ni. Like the D'ni they have an understanding of The Art but do not use Linking Books as the D'ni did. Interactions with the Bahro and the explorer community began to take place between 2002 and 2003 when the first groups of explorers entered the cavern and took Yeesha's journey.

Appearance
The Bahro are somewhat insectoid in appearance, with long clawed fingers for digging for food and defensive combat. They have strong lower arm structure for support when they are walking on all fours, however they can stand and walk upright, with some of them reaching 7 to 8 feet in height.
Their humped looking back in fact hides a wing structure which folds around the torso and over the chest, the torso itself is thin and angled for ease when walking upon all fours. When released the Bahro wingspan is a good 10 to 20 feet in width, and is capable of giving them and a passenger flight.
Their legs reveal a reversed knee structure that allows for them to crouch low and for easier movements when they are walking on all fours. They also have ball like hip joints which allows for the Bahro to rotate their legs to at least 90 degrees, when combined with the revered knee joints it allows the Bahro to cling to surfaces almost like a wedge.
The Bahro head has a slight taper to it, below hides a mouth that most do not see, and whilst it had strong blue eyes on the side of its head it can see in front with ease. Most interested of all is the symbol that is formed in the skin on the back of the Bahro’s head, this seems to be tied to the Bahro’s innate linking ability however at this time it is unknown how.
Whilst at first glance it looks they are all the same, the Bahro skin shades actually differ from one to the other, some being lighter, some darker, some with more gray some with more brown. There are other visual clues that can help tell the difference between individual Bahro if one looks closely.
Culture
The Bahro race are a somewhat hive like culture, with many of them living within a single domicile. They seem to have quiet a close communion atmosphere among them but are not hesitant to venture out on their own.
What little evidence of their eating habits seems to indicate that they fed on grubs found within the ground and drank water.
Little is currently know about Bahro architecture. Their domiciles are frequently a domed structure carved out of rock, often decorated with Bahroglyphs or Pictoglyphs. They use a lot of bones and tusks in their constructions for lamps, lamp supports, and decorative features.
Bahro derogatory term, if Ronay are people of the roots, the Bahro are the people of the tree thus the Ro'ter.
Bahro Queen, Nekisahloth the Bahro King. Roll architecture info into this section too. Spiral symbol, mention how the Bahro obtain it, trial of wills.
Enslavement
I have found little information regarding the imprisonment of the Bahro, it is said that Yeesha once mentioned that they have been enslaved for 10,000 years which would put their imprisonment either shortly before or shortly after the D’ni first arrived on Earth.
The reason for their enslavement has yet to be determined, however as a specie that can Link without relying on Books it makes it likely that this helped in moving large quantities of various products between Ages, which made their use appealing for those who used them as slaves.
At the moment records indicate that there were at least 2 forms of constraints upon the Bahro, the Totems and the Tablet.
The Totems (also known as pillars) were introduced to explorers in D’ni by Yeesha as they took her Journey it seems that the Totems are a physical restraint for the Bahro. She alludes to the Totems being the essence of the Bahro, being the soul as it were, what this actually means is still to be determined. Given the mechanisms of the Totems (before you collect them the Bahro cave is sat above the Fissue and after you return them it sits above D’ni Rudenna) I have speculated that perhaps the Totems keep the Bahro locked away somewhere out of phase so to speak, like being trapped between Ages.
More study is warranted on the Totems still.
The Tablet (also known as the Rosetta tablet/stone) was introduced during the Quest by Yeesha that resulted in the Bahro finally being truly free, the Tablet appears to be a mental restraint for the Bahro. Their full power and abilities were held in check by the Tablet, limiting them greatly in what they could achieve. The Tablets origin is unknown even to Yeesha, but it is likely it could be at least 10,000 years in age. The Tablet responds to people allowing them to pick it up and use it, however it appears if misused it will become un-usable, this had happened to both Yeesha and the D’ni Archivist Esher. As a result Yeesha had to rely on someone else to return the Tablet to the Bahro, an action she could no longer perform.
The person who held the Tablet had in effect control of the Bahro. The Tablet has since been returned to the Bahro granting them freedom by Dr. Richard Watson of the DRC.
The Seers & The Quest
Freedom & War
Upon gaining their freedom, the Bahro now had a choice with what to do with themselves, whilst some choose a path of good others, twisted by the years of treatment they received and the horrific experiments Esher performed on them in Noloben, choose a path of destruction.
After D’ni fell, a young Archivist by the name of Esher fled to Noloben. The Age was populated by Bahro and as time went on and he made a home for himself in one of the Bahro’s structures and began experimenting on them.
Using the Ages local snakes Esher paralyzed the Bahro and tortured, killed and dissected countless numbers of them to learn their secrets, eventually he removed a portion of the Bahro’s skin to fashion the Linking Pelt that allowed him to travel without Book.
When the Bahro were freed the Bahro King, from whom Esher took the Linking pelt from, rose up to lead a group of Bahro who would come to be known as the Bahro Nekisahl (Twisted Bahro). This group of Bahro decided to exact revenge on everyone for what they had to endure. The rest of the Bahro stood against them, realizing that all should not be judged for actions what were carried out by others. The battle spilled over a great many Ages; Negilahn, Releeshahn, Noloben, D’ni and more, and resulted in many deaths from both Bahro, Bahro Nekisahl and Humans with Willow "Wheely" Engberg and Rose Taylor falling victim.
In a bid to quell the conflict Yeesha fled with an item that Nekisahloth (Twisted One) wanted, causing the Bahro from both sides to follow her, little Bahro activity has been witnessed since.
It is speculated that the item she had was the Linking Pelt that Esher took from Nekisahloth, it is possible that the Bahro could not Link at will without it which would explain why the extreme interest in seeking its return.
Technology
Bahro do not really have technology of sorts, the term technology here refers to their Linking abilities. So far there have been several modes witnessed, Bahro Stones, Takes, Keeps, Minkata Stones, and of course the Bahro’s innate ability to Link at will.
Bahro Stone were first discovered during the restoration period of 2002 – 2003, a number of them showed up in various Ages and locations in D’ni leading to other places. The Bahro Stones are a weighty pale stone construct, with a cloth overlay which contains a Linking Panel. The Bahro stones display the similar properties of the Relto Book in which they allow for Linking within the same Age.
There is still some discussion as to whether the Bahro Stones are of Bahro construct of Yeesha’s.
Takes are the names given to a pedestal that sits upon a dial, these Takes like the Keeps are an overlap between Ages, the Takes overlap 2 Ages unlike the Keep which overlaps 4. The Takes work on a see-saw principle, when a person steps within the “bubble” they are still within the Age they just walked through, activating the Pillar tips the balance and sets it so you are now in the second Age.
For example;
Explorer A walks through Noloben and into the Take the Take is an overlap between Noloben and Direbo, they are still in Noloben. They activate the Pillar which tips the balance in the favour of the other Age, in this case Direbo. Explorer A leave the Take and is now in Direbo.
Not just an overlap between two Ages, the Takes also serve as home for the “Slates” these are tools that allow for communication with the Bahro (The Bahro follow anything written on it if they understand what it is), the Slates are also keys that unlock the Tablet.
The Keep worked a lot like the Takes did, except it overlapped with 4 Ages, Noloben, Laki'ahn, Tahgira and Todelmer. Each Age had their respective pedestal which again shifted the balance of the Keep to that Age. At the center of the Keep however was the Tablet which was a object of control over the Bahro. To unlock the Tablet the 4 Slates from the various Takes needed to be assembled and placed upon their respective pedestals thus unlocking the Tablet.
Since the Tablet has been returned to the Bahro, the Keep no longer appears to be in K’veer, it is uncertain yet unlikely that it remains in the other Ages still.
The Minkata Stones are large objects covered in Bahroglyphs, there are 5 of them situated within the Age of Minkata. When activated they transport a traveler to a Minkata at night time (they will also return someone to the day time Minkata), it is currently unknown as to whether the Minkata it takes you to is the same Age but at a different point in time or if its an alternate version of Minkata, situated on another branch of the Great Tree.
Bahroglyphs and Symbology
The term Bahroglyph is applied to two different methods of visual communication the Bahro use.
The first is what could be described as their written language. An extensive catalog of symbols and markings that as of yet has not been translated by the explorer community.
The Age of Minkata is home to an example of the Bahro language with English written along side it. It is theorized that the english is a translation of the glyphs written on the rock but this is still speculation at this point however the concept seems likely. It seems possible that the Bahro language is more complicated than it appears on the surface, with symbols not just reflecting works but ideas and concepts much like the D'ni Garohevtee. Given the Bahrotee innate understanding of the Art and Linking abilities it would seem likely. It is also worth noting that Noloben houses a great many examples of this written language but not only that but there appears to be examples of a numeric sequence. However at this time we still haven't discovered whether these numeric glyphs are from the Bahro or if they are the work of Esher.
The second use of the term Bahroglyph applies to pictoglyphs. Drawn images found in numerous places and Ages that convey a number of subjects ranging from the Bahro and their history to Yeesha and her travels through D'ni. There are also several Bahro Pictoglyphs that tell the history of Atrus and his family as well as other elements from D'ni civilization such as the Er'cana windmill or a scarab beetle.
These glyphs are extensive and contain a lot of information, as a result they have been split into their own sections.

Explorer Interaction
Interaction between the Bahro and the explorers in D’ni had been fleeting between the time periods of 2002 – 2005. In 2006 – 2007 however, due to the Bahro being freed, there was a huge increase in interaction.
Explorers saw the Bahro frequently in various locations in D’ni, as well as Ages such as Relto and Eder Kemo and even in Bahro caves.
Ireenquench gathered together a huge and detailed report from various explorers, detailing times, transcripts and photos of the interactions.
